Medical Office Administration
Program Overview:
This 5-course sequence prepares students for careers in the medical front office at the administrative level, and as Medical Biller and Coders. The first course of this series, Medical Terminology, is also a prerequisite for many of our other Medical training courses such as Medical Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant, and Phlebotomy Technician.
Medical Office Administration 1: Medical Terminology (90 hrs)
Brief Course description: This competency-based course is the first in a sequence of five designed for Medical Office Administration. It provides students with project-based experiences in medical and dental health information. Instruction includes orientation and safety, medical reports, structure of medical terms, medical abbreviations, body systems and structures, major classes of drugs, and employability skills.

Medical Office Administration 2: Front Office Assistant (90 hrs)
Brief Course description: this competency-based course is the second in a sequence of five designed for Medical Office Administration. Instruction includes an introduction and safety, the career of a medical office assistant, healthcare law and ethics, communications, appointment scheduling, patient reception and registration, management of healthcare information, overview of billing and coding, financial management, healthcare software, and employability skills review.

Medical Office Administration 3: Insurance and Billing (90 hrs)
Brief Course description: This competency-based course is the third in a sequence of five designed for Medical Office Administration. It provides students with project-based experiences in insurance and billing. Instruction includes an introduction and safety, understanding healthcare insurance, sharing and protecting patient’s health information, patient encounters and billing information, coding, group/private insurance plans, government plans, managed care, workers’ compensation and disability/liability insurance; claim processing, payments, and collections, advanced healthcare software, and employability skills review.

Medical Office Administration 4: Diagnostic Coding (90 hrs)
Brief Course description: This competency-based course is the fourth in a sequence of five designed for Medical Office Administration. It provides students with updated project-based experiences in diagnostic coding (ICD-10 code set) used in medical offices, hospitals, clinical laboratories, private and governmental insurance agencies, and other healthcare-related facilities. Instruction includes an introduction and safety, introduction to international classification of diseases, official coding guidelines, coding guidelines, and employability skills review.

Medical Office Administration 5: Procedural Coding (90 hrs)
Brief Course description: This competency-based course is the last in a sequence of five designed for Medical Office Administration. It provides students with updated project-based experiences in Current Procedural Terminology (CPT code set). Instruction includes an orientation and safety, introduction to CPT and HCPCS coding, modifiers, section specific guidelines, inpatient coding, and employability skills review.
